About Greg Acholonu

Greg Acholonu has been teaching children the “King’s Game” for over a decade. Greg’s passion for chess is most evident in his instruction of children. He knows the important life skills chess teaches such as strategy and patience. He receives great satisfaction in helping with the development of young minds.

After honing his instructional skills at the National Chess Center with school age children in the greater DC metro area, Mr. Acholonu offers children’s chess programs and camps and private instruction for children, teens & adults in the greater Annapolis area.

Greg’s love of chess began as a boy. A Life Master USCF, he started playing chess in 1972 at the age of 13 and played in his first tournament a year later in New York City. By 1978, he achieved Candidate Master (Expert); in 1982, he achieved Master; and in 1992, he achieved Senior Master. Mr. Acholonu is also a four-time U.S. Chess Center Champion and the 1992 Maryland Closed Champion.

Greg Acholonu has passed many rigorous background checks and is fully qualified to interact and teach children. GCA Children’s Chess is a state of Maryland Limited Liability Corporation and is insured.
